"FHM (For Him Magazine) UK, April 1996"
Excerpts:
Went to school in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She shaved her head, got a three-foot purple Mohawk, a nose ring and wore 2-dollar dresses. She hints darkly at times of loneliness and despair, of identifying with Jane Horrock's character in Life is Sweet, and mentions "hurting myself in different ways".
When she was 14, she went the whole hog and shacked up with a penniless punk muso, ten years her senior. They used to sleep rough "in warehouses with no heating and on friends' apartment floors," she remembers. "I guess I felt comfortable in that relationship because I felt dirty and grungy and angry. I used to not like myself", she says matter-of-factly. "I spent time overweight, underweight, wearing black, hiding."
"...It was only when I started to shave my head and dress differently that I realized that I had a voice as to who I was and what I stood for...''
She wants her hair up for the next shots, and while it's teased into shape, takes a peek at an Internet page showing her high school pictures. "Some of this stuff is so embarrassing," she moans as an ex-boyfriend's poetry comes up next to a picture of her at 16.
"US Magazine, March 1996"
Excerpts:
...As a self-described "fearless" teen, Anderson made forays to the dark side that had less to do with the X-Files than with the punk-rock nihilism of the Sex Pistols. ..."One summer when I was 12 or 13 I went back (to London) and was suddenly taken by the punks," says Anderson, who returned to the States with a stud in her nose. "I would walk sideways around my dad so he wouldn't see it." She also had a boyfriend 10 years her senior, whose tales of poet buddies getting shot up in coffeehouse melees kept her interested for three years. "I even supported him, to a degree," she says, amused. "I'd buy his cigarettes and Big Gulps. ...There is a very rebellious nature inside me that will always be there, that kicks in when it needs to."
